Contemporary Balinese Villas

A few months back I got to shoot a showcase for an interior decorator of a home which was built by the Extra Dimensions Property Group and designed by architect Theo Coetzee. I loved the architecture and contemporary style right from the first entry of the home.

I then arrive at the these 2 Balinese villas overlooking the 12th green of Zimbali golf course and immediately notice the architectural style and comment the same to owner of Seeff Dolphin Coast for whom I was capturing these home. I was indeed correct and was fascinated by the exploration of the home space. Both villas have similar floor plans set on slightly different elevations.

The east villa was furnished as a show house (both these homes are being sold off plan) with the interior finishing done by SudaWest Interiors based in Ballito.

  1. Grant… I really love your architectural work! I am just curious if you are using a tilt shift lens or are you using post production? The photos looks to good to be post production, but I am really curious 🙂 I am looking at taking the leap of purchasing a tilt shift lens, but not sure if the 17mm or 24mm would be the wiser option. I understand light falloff is a problem with the wider lenses, I was just wondering how much of a problem it is on the 17mm and if you have experience with this?

    Thanks and really amazing work!

I so seldom use post production tilt and shift correction mainly because it’s time consuming and I believe in attempting to capture what’s in front of me as perfectly as possible each time (there are some times when it’s necessary with a regular zoom lens but I try avoid it at all cost). I shoot with a 17-40mm F4 L Canon lens and it really is great, there are some instances where there is barrel distortion wide open and you have to correct that in post production but generally it’s very sharp. I have used a mate of mine’s 17mm TS/E L series lens and you can’t compare. That honestly is the next item on my wish list. It is absolutely one of the best lenses Canon has ever made.
