Investigating Death

Sometimes as photographers we don’t choose what we photograph but rather need to humble ourselves in accepting that our skills are needed by those not altogether comfortable in the process of image capture. Needed in such a way that the client knows that they cannot capture their work as a showcase as well as those that undertake scene capture on a regular basis and thus hire someone better than themselves to capture the setting containing their finished product.

This would be the case for a recent shoot I undertook to showcase mortuary systems in a brand new setup to be one of SA’s biggest investigative mortuaries. I am constantly promoting my work more to the corporate market. This project was ultimately photographing a corporate interior project!

Weird doesn’t even begin to describe it! The most radical and interesting aspect was the storage room, temperature controlled at 5 degrees Celsius, setup to accommodate 500 body trays. Everything was pristine clean in stainless steel (all supplied by my client) to maintain the ultimate levels of cleanliness. Hygiene lasts well after death has taken place it would seem. Below is some of the images and detail captured.
